The bill is now expected to pass. as the Council revived it earlier this month using a rare EU procedure that makes it easier to pass a law than to stop one.

I fear what the future will hold when it comes to scanning people’s messages, and not only messages but much more. It all has been quickly escalating over the recent years. And, yeah, I guess it will help in terms of crime, but it is still an invasion of privacy of all of the people, even those who did nothing wrong and have the right to live a private life. Just as Edward Snowden said - “A child born today will grow up with no conception of privacy at all. They’ll never know what it means to have a private moment to themselves an unrecorded, unanalysed thought. And that’s a problem because privacy matters, privacy is what allows us to determine who we are and who we want to be.” I’m using Signal and the majority of people whom I know often use WhatsApp so I guess this particular law won’t make much of a difference for me personally right now, but this doesn’t change the fact that the law is genuinely invasive to the people who did nothing to deserve that kind of observation, who just want to live a normal, quiet, and private live.
