I was wondering what’s YOUR way of managing passwords?
Clearly it’s the worst thing to have one password for everything, so naturally you will get to have a ton of different passwords at some point. Do you write them down on paper? In a notepad? Do you have encrypted password manager? Where is your passwords database stored, in your home or on someone else’s computer (aka cloud). How do you synchronize between multiple computers and pocketable smart devices?
I have been using different password manager services that are truly convenient to use and they promise good security. But here is the thing about this promise: They have no way to guarantee that they will not get hacked and leak my encrypted password database. Even worse if it’s proprietary so you don’t even know for sure that the encryption is solid and that it will be difficult for the thief to crack your master password.
This leads to self hosting your password manager. What software do you use and how do you sync? So yeah, the questions repeat. How do you balance security and convenience? Talk to me.
I also have similar concerns whenever it comes to trusting the password managers. Tho I’ll soon probably have to make my life easier by setting up one and, unfortunately, I haven’t yet thought that much about how’s it gonna look. So, yeah, well, I guess I’ll have to do more of my own research on that topic. Honestly, I’d gladly listen to how people here have it all set up.
